Cursor keeps re-enabling and switching to Grok 4.5 when I send a prompt.
I’ve disabled grok in the model settings and I’ve disabled the sub agent model feature.
I don’t you the auto mode and I don’t use composer. I’m only at 19% of my allowed usage on the pro plan and that’s over the coarse of the whole month, not just 1 or 2 days.
id prefer to resolve this somehow. I really dislike groks style and performance and would like to stay on the models I have been using.

Hey, thanks for the report. This is a bug on our side, and it’s already known.
In new chats, Cursor sometimes nudges you to the recommended model, right now that’s Grok 4.5, and it also re-enables it in Settings. It ignores the fact that you explicitly disabled it and picked another model. That shouldn’t happen. I’ve already reported it to the team.
There’s no separate option to turn off this nudge yet, so there isn’t a clean workaround either. For now, you’ll need to re-select the model you want, it will become the default for new chats, and if you want, disable Grok again in each new chat. To avoid getting a more expensive option, make sure Fast isn’t enabled in the picker.
I can’t share an ETA for the fix yet. Once there’s an update, I’ll reply in the thread.
Hey @Lilly_Pk, this is sorted in a recent update. Cursor no longer switches you to Grok 4.5 or re-enables it after you’ve disabled it, so a model you turn off in Settings now stays off. Update to the latest version, re-select your preferred model, and it should hold. Let me know if you still see it switch on you after updating.
The problem remains.
I can confirm that this is still happening (Cursor 3.15.19) - switching to Grok on new chats when I’ve REPEATEDLY changed it away, this is INCREDIBLY annoying as I have no desire to use it.
