Frequent Crashes and Connection Issues After Recent Updates

Describe the Bug

Issue Description
The Cursor application consistently becomes unresponsive with the error message “The window is not responding” appearing immediately after launch. This makes it impossible to perform any coding tasks or use the application effectively.

Troubleshooting Steps Already Attempted
I have systematically tried the following solutions without success:

  1. Application Reinstallation
    Complete uninstallation of Cursor
    Multiple fresh installations
Cleared all application data and settings
  2. System Maintenance
    Performed comprehensive PC maintenance
Cleared system cache and temporary files
    Restarted the system multiple times
  3. Configuration Adjustments
    Disabled GPU acceleration via settings.json
Attempted to launch with various command line parameters:
    –disable-gpu
    –safe-mode
    –reset-user-data
    Modified hardware acceleration settings
    Disabled AI features and extensions
  4. Settings Optimization
    Cleared workspace settings
    Removed .cursor and .vscode folders
    Reset user preferences to default
    Disabled TypeScript/JavaScript suggestions
  5. System Resource Management
Monitored RAM usage and cleared memory
    Closed unnecessary applications
    Checked for conflicting software
    Current Status
    Despite all these efforts, Cursor:

Opens briefly but immediately becomes unresponsive
Shows “The window is not responding” dialog
Cannot be used for any productive work
Requires force-closing through Task Manager

Please treat this as a high-priority support request, as it has made the application completely unusable despite multiple installation attempts.

Steps to Reproduce

Completely uninstalled and reinstalled Cursor
Restarted my system multiple times
Issues continue to occur despite fresh installation

Hey, this issue is typically related to having a large chat history in your project. To resolve it, try manually deleting most of the history, especially the oldest chats. You can also try renaming or moving the project to quickly clear the history.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion! I’ve already tried deleting all chat history and clearing the project history completely, but the issue persists. The “window is not responding” error occurs immediately when Cursor starts up, even before I can access any chat features or project files.

I’ve also attempted:

  • Complete reinstallation multiple times
  • Clearing all application data (%APPDATA%\Cursor)
  • Launching with various flags (–disable-gpu, --safe-mode, --reset-user-data)
  • System maintenance and memory optimization
  • Disabling all extensions and AI features

The application becomes unresponsive within seconds of launching, regardless of the project or chat history. This seems to be a deeper system compatibility issue rather than a chat history problem.

I’m considering formatting my PC as a last resort, but that would be quite time-consuming. Are there any other advanced troubleshooting steps or system-level fixes you could suggest before I take that drastic step?

Could you please provide a link to download the previous stable version of Cursor? I believe that rolling back to the earlier version will completely resolve this issue.

That’s quite strange. If you’ve tried all the methods, the issue might be with your hardware. And yes, you can try downloading the previous version here:
