I’ve noticed that Gemini is having trouble making edits in agent mode. It will usally say something like this:
“It seems the edit wasn’t applied. I’ll reapply.”
Reapplied changes [filename]
“Okay, the reaply seems to have partially worked but also made some incorrect changes…”
[consolidates changes]
“I will now attempt to apply these consolidated changes.”
[filename] No changes made
“Unfortunately the consolidated edit also failed to apply. It seems the complexity of the required changes is preventing the automated edits from working reliably.” [suggests making the edits manually.]
Then later, with a more simple edit:
“Okay, I will apply the correction in [filename].”
[filename] No changes made
“The edit failed to apply. Let’s try reapplying.”
Reapplied changes [filename]
"It seems the automatic edits are consistently failing for this file.
“Please manually replace the code block in [filename] …” [further instructions]
“Apologies for the difficulties with the automatic edits.”
Has anybody else experienced this, or found a fix with custom instructions?
