Gemini-2.5-pro MAX: The model returned an error. Try disabling MCP servers, or switch models

Describe the Bug

I can use any other model just fine, the only one that doesn’t work is gemini 2.5 pro. My IDE is updated and the rest of the models work just as expected. My subscription is paid. This has been happening for about 1-2 weeks. Anyone else having the same issue?

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Sometimes - I can sometimes use Cursor

Hey, if you have enabled MCP servers, Git, and Notion, try disabling them as they are causing an error.

I just have Unity MCP. I’ll try disabling. Either way, it should still work with the MCP servers.

I’m having this issue too. Disabling the MCP works.

Does anyone know whether this a Google or a Cursor limitation?

I am using GPT5 and encountering the same issue here

i have this same issue. it SEEMS like it may be enforcing the tool limit. I can enable a bunch of MCPs with few tools but eventually it craps out. This is really unbelievable.

Same issue here with mcp-atlassian and GitLab MCP servers. Claude, for example, works well with both.
