Getting lots of Tool call timed out after 5000ms

Also when this happens I have to quit Cursor entirely and reopen.

Version: 0.46.4
MacOS: 15.3.1
Macbook Air M2

IIRC it was updated this morning. Was not happening in 0.46.3

It has become unusable in my codebase. Really bad.

I am experiencing the same. It is unusable at the moment. So many issues, mostly related to the cursor internal/apply tools, etc. For once, Sonnet isn’t the issue!

The retries are costing me a fortune in excess usage fees!

Can you try updating to the latest version? cmd+shift+p attempt update

The latest version (0.46.7) has a few fixes for timeouts and improved memory usage.

Hi there, could we get a direct download link for 46.7, every time auto update occurs I get the “tool” installation error and have to re-install from a full MSI, thanks!

Hi, a direct download link is available here: Downloads | Cursor - The AI Code Editor for 0.46 and 0.45

(0.46 points to the latest 0.46 version, so 0.46.7)

thank you I appreciate the quick response

Hello I’m having the same with the 0.46.7 on windows with wsl.
Many tools timeout after 5000ms.
The ui is quite unresponsive and after sometimes i got OOM and cursor crash !

same issue here on 46.7

Happening constantly. I’m using the most up to date version on an intel MacBook

I just updated to 46.7 and I have the same issue.

It is extremely slow, everything is freezing. I don’t see any improvement on performance. Plus, it ruined the nicely working version.

I had the same issue until I discovered I have to create new chat instances. Basically I was working in one chat history for 2 weeks and that seemed to crash the system. Maybe that’s worth a try for you

This resolved my issue

Any news for this ?

I also have a lot of those which makes AI not working in an optimal way because sometimes he skip reading and try modify directly since he failed to read.

is there a way to increase that number ? before I see that some people have the error but with 25000ms

I’m having the same time out issues, even with new chat instances. I’ve lost a lot of paid credits already

thanks @schuon starting a new chat fixes the issue

I am frequently starting a new chat thread…so often that there is no notice to “Start a new chat”
I still get the tool call timed out and i’m on version 46.11
Please increase the timeout from 5000ms and just charge more for the tool if you have to.

here is help info:
Version: 0.46.11 (user setup)
VSCode Version: 1.96.2
Commit: ae378be9dc2f5f1a6a1a220c6e25f9f03c8d4e10
Date: 2025-03-07T07:01:25.026Z

Chromium: 128.0.6613.186
Node.js: 20.18.1

Now Claude is SO LIMITED by the 5000ms limit that it is trying alternatives to the read file function (I’m purposely omitting it’s alternative tools incase Cursor devs force a 5000ms on those too)

Ok now it is getting ridiculous. Claude attempted to read fewer lines but still hit the 5 sec timeout
