Github CoPilot extension not showing up in marketplace

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

I want to install GitHub Copilot in my Cursor IDE because my company is providing it for free and not cursor. However when I go to my extension marketplace and search for “Github Copilot Chat” it doesn’t show up in the results.

I read everywhere that I should be able to install it. How comes I cannot search for it?

Steps to Reproduce

Go to extension and search for “Github Copilot Chat”

Operating System

MacOS

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, this is expected behavior, not a bug.

Cursor uses the Open VSX registry instead of the VS Code Marketplace, and GitHub Copilot isn’t available there. Also, VS Code has hardcoded Copilot-specific features into its core that conflict with how Cursor works, so it isn’t as simple as making the extension installable. More context from our team is here: Re-enable Copilot or Add the Copilot Model to Cursor.

Since you’re already on Pro, Cursor’s built-in AI features (Agent, Tab completions, inline edit) should cover the same use cases as Copilot, and in many cases go further. If there’s a specific Copilot feature you’re missing, I’m happy to help you find the equivalent in Cursor.
