GitHub Integration shows stray org ranxirui1 after full clean reset (ticket T-F64605)

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Somewhere else…

Describe the Bug

Hi,

My Cursor Integrations GitHub connection shows a stray organization I do not know and do not belong to.

Accounts

  • Cursor account email: [email protected] (Stony Bear)
  • GitHub login: BearThreeStones
  • Stray org shown: ranxirui1 (a personal GitHub user I do not know — not listed in my GitHub organizations)
  • Support ticket: T-F64605 (Sam from [email protected])

What Integrations shows
After a full clean reset + reconnect, GitHub is connected as BearThreeStones, but organizations still list ranxirui1 (currently shows 1 organization: ranxirui1).

GitHub-side checks

  • Sign in to GitHub · GitHub — Cursor installed only on personal account BearThreeStones
  • Cursor app Configure / github.com/apps/cursor install targets: BearThreeStones, CRYTEK, EpicGames — NOT ranxirui1
  • Sign in to GitHub · GitHub — CRYTEK and EpicGames only; ranxirui1 not listed
  • I never intentionally authorized ranxirui1

Full clean reset already completed (per support)

  1. Disconnected GitHub on cursor.com/dashboard/integrations
  2. Uninstalled Cursor GitHub App (personal) at github.com/settings/installations
  3. Revoked Cursor under Authorized OAuth Apps at github.com/settings/applications
  4. Confirmed ranxirui1 is not an org membership
  5. Fresh Incognito reconnect: signed into Cursor as [email protected], then Connect GitHub as BearThreeStones

Sam confirmed this looks like residual Cursor-side GitHub connection state that Disconnect/reconnect does not clear, and asked me to post here because they cannot manually flush the token/org cache from email support.

Could someone on the team flush the GitHub connection/token cache for GitHub user BearThreeStones / Cursor account [email protected] so ranxirui1 stops appearing?

Thanks!

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Disconnect GitHub on cursor.com/dashboard/integrations.
  2. Uninstall the Cursor GitHub App (personal) at github.com/settings/installations.
  3. Revoke Cursor under Authorized OAuth Apps at github.com/settings/applications.
  4. Confirm ranxirui1 is not a GitHub organization membership.
  5. In a fresh Incognito window, sign into Cursor as [email protected], then connect GitHub as BearThreeStones.
  6. Open Integrations and observe that ranxirui1 still appears under organizations.

Expected Behavior

After a full disconnect, GitHub App uninstall, OAuth revocation, and reconnect as BearThreeStones, the Integrations organization list should be empty or show only organizations actually associated with BearThreeStones. The unknown ranxirui1 entry should no longer appear.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the detailed report and for doing a full reset before posting.

Good news: nothing is stuck on our side. The list under “organizations” is not something Cursor stores anywhere. Every time you load the Integrations page, we ask GitHub which Cursor GitHub App installations are available to your GitHub account, and we show exactly what GitHub returns. This list can include personal accounts too, not just organisations, whenever you have collaborator access to someone else’s repo.

GitHub is telling us that BearThreeStones has access to at least one repo owned by the personal account ranxirui1 (display name “RanXiRui”), where the Cursor App is installed. That’s why this entry survives disconnect and reconnect. When you reconnect, we ask GitHub again, and GitHub gives the same answer. This is expected behaviour, and the word “organizations” here is just an unfortunate UI label.

This also explains why you couldn’t find it on GitHub. github.com/settings/installations only shows installs on accounts you own, and github.com/settings/organizations only shows organisation memberships. A repo that someone else shared with you won’t show up in either place.

How to check and remove it:

  1. Open Sign in to GitHub · GitHub as BearThreeStones.
  2. Find the repo whose owner is ranxirui1. That’s what’s giving you the access.
  3. If you don’t need it, click Leave next to it, or ask ranxirui1 to remove you as a collaborator.
  4. Reload cursor.com/dashboard/integrations and ranxirui1 should no longer appear.

A couple more things I noticed:

  • During the reset step, you removed the Cursor App from the BearThreeStones account, and it hasn’t been reinstalled. Go to GitHub Apps - Cursor · GitHub, click Install, and pick BearThreeStones so your own repos work again with Cloud Agents and Bugbot.
  • Signing in via GitHub created a separate new Cursor account today under [email protected]. The same GitHub login is also linked to another Cursor account, so before setting things up, make sure you’re logged into the one you actually use.

Let me know if ranxirui1 still shows up after leaving that repo and I’ll dig deeper.

Thanks Dean — that was exactly it.

I left the private collaborator repo ranxirui1/MagicDawn, reloaded Integrations, and ranxirui1 is gone. It now only shows BearThreeStones.

Appreciate the clear explanation (and for pointing out that “organizations” can include personal accounts via collaborator access). Thanks for the help!
