This has happened a few times now: gpt-5.2-codex-xhigh starts working on a prompt, reads files, does searches, creates a to-do list, does 1 round of “thinking” and then just hangs. The toolbar shows the stop button so there’s no feedback on what’s happening.

I sent a “continue” message which was queued and then pressed on “Send Now”. This led to the previous thinking trace to say “Stopped thinking”. It started grepping/reding/etc. and then got stuck again after I saw another thinking trace.

Steps to Reproduce

Ask gpt-5.2-codex-xhigh to do anything in Agent mode.

Expected Behavior

It should be editing files or answering a question.

Windows 10/11

Can you share an affected Request ID, ideally with privacy mode disabled before you start the chat (Cursor Settings > General > Privacy)?

Have been facing this issue with all GPT 5.2 codex models since I posted this. They are unusable in Cursor for me.

Sometimes, models just take a while. If speed is a concern, can I suggest that you try gpt-5.2-xhigh-fast if you haven’t already? It’s a more expensive model, but it should return results quicker. You might also find that what you need to get done can be accomplished by a faster model like gpt-5.2-codex-low.
