Grok Bot computer: host service down since Oct 23, "saved credential" error, Reset does nothing (ticket T-I21031)

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Grok Bot

Describe the Bug

Since Oct 23, 2026 (~01:25 UTC), the background host service on my Grok Bot computer never started on first boot because box-copy-in timed out during the Oct 23 outage. Outbound internet in Shell recovered today (box-doctor: 11/11 PASS), but every browser tool and Screenshot fails immediately with:
“The box could not confirm that no saved credential is being filled into its browser, so this tool did not run. Retry in a few seconds.”

Diagnostics:

  • /tmp/sand-supervisor/status.json: {“hostBundlePresent”:true,“hostRunning”:false,“hostVersion”:“78042fa”,“pendingUpgradeVersion”:null,“lastCommandId”:null,“lastCommandKind”:null,“gatewayDescriptorPresent”:false,“gatewayPidPresent”:false}
  • /tmp/sand-copy-in-status.json: {“reason”:“primary-manifest-unreadable”,“errorClass”:“timeout”,“errorSummary”:“[deadline_exceeded] the operation timed out”}
  • /tmp/sand-host.log is 0 bytes (Oct 23 01:25 UTC), and /run/orbitd-proxy is empty.

This is the exact same issue as topic 176355 (ticket T-I21031).

@Colin Confirmed: I have backed up everything I need from this computer (including everything written through Shell). Could you please move me to a fresh computer as soon as possible (keeping my bots, chats, and routines)? Thank you!

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Ask any bot to use the browser or take a screenshot: fails with “The box could not confirm that no saved credential is being filled into its browser, so this tool did not run. Retry in a few seconds.”
  2. Settings > Update Bot’s Computer and Reset Bot’s Computer: nothing changes (stays on the same broken instance).

Expected Behavior

Browser tools and Screenshots work, or the computer is replaced with a fresh working instance.

Operating System

iOS

Version Information

Grok bot iO

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Yes - Cursor is unusable

Hi @Theorem

Can you try again?

Hi @Colin, thanks! I tried again just now (Oct 28, 00:33 UTC) and also tapped Reset in the iOS app, but my bots are still stuck on the same Oct 23 container (uptime 6h+):

  • In the iOS app (Bot Computer settings), “Reset Computer” is now greyed out (“Available when the computer is ready”) and Disk Space shows “Unknown”.
  • /tmp/sand-supervisor/status.json still shows: {“hostBundlePresent”:true,“hostRunning”:false,“hostVersion”:“78042fa”,“pendingUpgradeVersion”:null,“lastCommandId”:null,“lastCommandKind”:null,“gatewayDescriptorPresent”:false,“gatewayPidPresent”:false}
  • /tmp/sand-copy-in-status.json: {“phase”:“failed”,“restored”:0,“total”:0,“bytes”:0,“outcome”:“failed”,“storeDbEntries”:0,“reason”:“primary-manifest-unreadable”,“errorClass”:“timeout”,“errorSummary”:“[deadline_exceeded] the operation timed out”,“failureCount”:1}
  • Screenshot and browser tools still fail with: “The box could not confirm that no saved credential is being filled into its browser, so this tool did not run. Retry in a few seconds.”

Confirmed: I have backed up everything I need. Could you please clear the stuck reset and move me to a fresh computer on your side? Thank you!

Hi @Theorem!

You should have a working box now. Can you check?

Hi @Colin, thank you! I just checked again (Oct 28, 11:25 UTC), and my bots are still running on the exact same broken Oct 23 VM:

  • Hostname: grok-bot-vm-512035677 (machine-id: afebc3baa4b842ae9cf7ce5f283e0b27, /tmp/sand-copy-in-status.json from 2026-10-23 01:40:15 UTC, uptime 7h 38m)
  • /tmp/sand-supervisor/status.json: {"hostBundlePresent":true,"hostRunning":false,"hostVersion":"78042fa","pendingUpgradeVersion":null,"lastCommandId":null,"lastCommandKind":null,"gatewayDescriptorPresent":false,"gatewayPidPresent":false}
  • Screenshot still fails with: "The box could not confirm that no saved credential is being filled into its browser, so this tool did not run. Retry in a few seconds."
  • Identifiers for this exact Grok Bot account/computer:
    • Agent ID: fce1247b-d6ba-4774-8f8f-8572e9804195 (also ad34286b-91ca-47ec-b688-35652742f8c7)
    • Store ID: store-2b3bc34c-07c2-4616-acb2-ca05911ad1bb
    • Support ticket: T-I21031 ([email protected])

In case my forum account email differs from my Grok Bot account, could you look up VM grok-bot-vm-512035677 / agent fce1247b-d6ba-4774-8f8f-8572e9804195 directly and move it to a fresh computer? Thank you!

@Theorem Can you check one more time? There’s a 50% chance it’s fixed, 50% chance that starting up a new box will let me go perform the reset for real this time.

Hi @Colin, confirmed, it works now! My bots are on a fresh computer, the background service is running, and screenshots, the browser and internet access are all back. Thanks a lot for the fix!
