Grok Bot: delisted GitHub plugin (48677658) can't be uninstalled or reconfigured, and shows "connected" with 0 tools after a 401

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?
Somewhere else: Grok Bot

Describe the Bug
The marketplace GitHub plugin (plugin id 48677658, MCP server user-Github) is installed on my account, but I can’t remove or reconfigure it.

  • Status is misleading. The server shows as connected, but it has 0 tools. Its GITHUB_PERSONAL_ACCESS_TOKEN setup value is empty, and the endpoint (https://api.githubcopilot.com/mcp/) returns HTTP 401. It should show as failed or needing auth, not connected.
  • It can’t be removed. The listing seems to have been delisted from the plugin catalog. Looking up plugin 48677658 by id or by search finds nothing, so there’s no plugin page where I could uninstall it or edit its setup values.
    • Uninstalling the plugin from Grok Bot fails with: No plugin with id 48677658
    • Uninstalling the MCP server user-Github from Grok Bot refuses and says to uninstall plugin 48677658 instead.
  • So each path sends me to the other, and there’s no supported way left to uninstall the plugin or fix its token.

Related, but not the same bug:

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Install the GitHub marketplace plugin (48677658) on a Grok Bot account.
  2. The listing is later delisted from the catalog, and the GITHUB_PERSONAL_ACCESS_TOKEN setup value is empty.
  3. Look at MCP server status for user-Github. It says connected, with 0 tools.
  4. Search the plugin catalog for GitHub / 48677658. It isn’t found.
  5. In Grok Bot, uninstall plugin 48677658. Result: No plugin with id 48677658.
  6. In Grok Bot, uninstall MCP server user-Github. It refuses and says to uninstall plugin 48677658 instead.

Expected Behavior

  1. A plugin that’s installed but delisted can still be uninstalled (and ideally reconfigured, e.g. to edit its setup values) from Plugins › Yours, by plugin id or by server id. Delisting shouldn’t strand existing installs.
  2. A server whose connection fails with a 401 shows as failed or needs auth, not connected. Connected with 0 tools should never happen silently.
  3. If the plugin uninstall can’t find the plugin, uninstalling the MCP server should be allowed as a fallback, instead of pointing back to the plugin uninstall.

Actual Behavior

  • Status: user-Github shows connected, 0 tools. The setup value is empty, and the endpoint returns 401.
  • Catalog: plugin 48677658 isn’t found by id or by search.
  • Plugin uninstall: No plugin with id 48677658.
  • MCP server uninstall: refused, told to uninstall plugin 48677658 instead.

Evidence (sanitized, 2026-09-24 ~10:59 PM ET)

  • From the Grok Bot box, an unauthenticated MCP initialize POST to https://api.githubcopilot.com/mcp/ returns 401. That’s the same result as the plugin with an empty PAT.
  • No user-Github tools are exposed to agents. The server has 0 tools.
  • No token was used or included in this report.

Operating System
Not relevant. This is server-side, account-level plugin/connector management, not something on my device.

Version Information
Grok Bot 1.12.0 (12804) · runtime 14abf2f39169547a91b7e8555f78c622951297c6 · embedded bundle · channel production

Additional Information

  • Surface: Grok Bot plugin/connector management (account-level; affects every bot on the account)
  • Plugin: GitHub marketplace plugin 48677658, MCP server user-Github (a catalog plugin, not a hand-added MCP)
  • Impact: a dead connector that looks healthy. Bots that trust the status think GitHub is available, and I can’t clean it up myself. My other GitHub access (a separate custom MCP) is unaffected.
  • Ask: please remove plugin 48677658 / user-Github from my account, or tell me a supported way to do it. If you want the plugin kept instead, tell me where to enter its setup values now that the listing is gone.

Does this stop you from using Grok Bot?
No - Grok Bot works, but with this issue

Hey @jsolly,

GitHub is now built into Grok Bot (it uses your connected Cursor GitHub account), so the old marketplace plugin was replaced. That’s why it’s gone from the catalog and shows 0 tools, and there’s no PAT to enter anymore.

To clear the leftover, remove it from the UI rather than asking a bot (that’s the dead end you hit, and it’s an issue we’re tracking):

  1. Grok Bot desktop → Plugins → Yours → click the leftover GitHub row (the one offering Uninstall, not the built-in that offers Connect) → Uninstall.
  2. If it’s not there, in Cursor’s editor: Customize → Plugins → GitHub → uninstall.

This won’t affect the built-in GitHub or your separate custom GitHub server. If neither shows an Uninstall, let me know and I’ll clear it from our side.

Thanks Mohit! I checked both places you mentioned, and there’s no Uninstall option for the leftover GitHub plugin. The Plugins list only shows my one working GitHub plugin. I also removed and re-added GitHub on my side and updated the bot’s computer, but the leftover is still there. On the bot’s side it shows as an installed plugin named Github (plugin ID 48677658), connected but with 0 tools. Could you clear it on your side?

@jsolly we’ve removed the leftover GitHub plugin from your account. Fully quit and reopen Grok Bot and it should be gone. Your built-in GitHub and your custom GitHub server aren’t affected.

Thanks, Mohit! After a full quit and reopen, the leftover GitHub plugin is gone and the built-in GitHub connector still works. All good here, so this can be closed.
