Grok Bot: hung custom MCP remotes are invisible in Plugins → Yours and Uninstall also times out (discovery catch-22)

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Grok Bot

Describe the Bug

Grok Bot MCP discovery is stuck in a catch-22: hung custom remotes take down every connector (DeadlineExceeded), but those remotes do not appear in Settings → Plugins → Yours (or Customize), and Uninstall also times out because it probes the hung remotes first. There is no UI or API path left to remove them.

This is the same shared-budget failure Kevin described in the thread “MCPs / plugins not working” (topic 168200), except the official workaround (remove the hung connector) is impossible when the connector is a ghost.

Account: Cursor Ultra on the getsift.ai workspace
Agent: Release Guard
App: Grok Bot 0.18.0 Stable, macOS (darwin arm64)
When: 2026-08-13, America/Vancouver

Hung remotes we added via Grok Bot AddMcpServer (custom HTTP MCPs, not marketplace plugins):

  • derive (Cloudflare 1010 / datacenter bot block from the Grok Bot box)
  • inngest
  • wiki-brain

What fails (all return Backend MCP tool discovery failed: DeadlineExceeded):

  • listing connectors
  • plugin catalog / search
  • restart connectors
  • uninstall of a custom remote (including user-derive)

What we already tried:

  1. Settings → Plugins → Yours (opened by Codex Computer Use on the Mac). Installed rows were only: Vercel, Slack, Firecrawl, Apify, Gmail, Google Calendar, GitHub. Search for derive / inngest / wiki-brain returned nothing. Private skills empty.
  2. Customize (Cmd+Shift+M) is the same Plugins screen. Same result.
  3. Cursor dashboard Integrations and Plugins (signed in as Udbhav Agarwal Ultra). Those pages are team GitHub/Slack/marketplace plugins only. Custom Grok Bot remotes are not listed, so they cannot be deleted there either.
  4. Cursor Agent CLI on the Mac (agent mcp list / GetMcpTools) sees marketplace plugins (Slack, GitHub, Vercel) and does not expose GetMcpConfig/SetMcpConfig. It cannot delete the ghosts.
  5. Restart connectors: same DeadlineExceeded.

Expected

  • Hung/custom remotes appear in Settings → Plugins → Yours with a delete control.
  • Uninstall of a custom remote does not require a successful full discovery pass over every server.
  • One unresponsive remote must not blank out Slack/GitHub/Vercel/etc. (Kevin already said this is tracked; the missing piece is ghosts with no delete path.)

Actual
Discovery times out for the whole account. The hung remotes are invisible in every UI we can reach. Uninstall cannot run. The account is stuck.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. In Grok Bot, add custom remote MCP servers (AddMcpServer) whose endpoints hang or are Cloudflare-blocked from the Grok Bot backend (derive returns 1010 from the box).
  2. After they hang, open Settings → Plugins → Yours. The custom remotes are not listed.
  3. Ask the agent to list connectors or uninstall user-derive. Observe DeadlineExceeded.
  4. Confirm the Cursor dashboard Integrations/Plugins pages also do not list those custom remotes.

Expected Behavior

Custom remotes stay visible and deletable even when their MCP endpoint is dead. Discovery of other connectors should still succeed.

Operating System

MacOS

Version Information

Grok Bot 0.18.0 Stable, darwin arm64

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Yes - Cursor is unusable

Following up: still stuck. GetMcpServerStatus / UninstallMcpServer / SearchPlugins all still return DeadlineExceeded.

Confirmed Uninstall lists every connector first, so we cannot delete the hung remotes from the agent.
Settings → Plugins → Yours still does not show derive / inngest / wiki-brain.
cursor.com/dashboard/plugins also does not list them.

Kevin, can you pull these three custom remotes off account [email protected] (Ultra) so discovery comes back? Same shared-budget hang as topic 168200, except we have no delete path.

Thanks.

Adding the identifiers Cursor staff would need to delete the ghosts:

Cursor account email: udbhav at getsift.ai
Cursor user id: user_01JHRD98Z2YQKSDYNJ0EBW6AW4
Plan: Ultra
Grok Bot agent: Release Guard
Grok Bot agent id: c3cb6f4d-53cf-45f5-96eb-61f3551a5d71
App: Grok Bot 0.18.0 Stable, darwin arm64

Custom remotes to delete (added via Grok Bot AddMcpServer, not marketplace plugins):

  1. name=derive, host=derive.to/mcp, identifier likely user-derive
  2. name=inngest, host=api.inngest.com/mcp
  3. name=wiki-brain, host=llm-wiki-cloud-is215.sevalla.app/mcp/

These do not appear in Settings → Plugins → Yours or the Cursor dashboard Plugins page. UninstallMcpServer times out because it lists/probes every connector first.

Hey there, thanks for the detailed writeup, and sorry you’re stuck on this.

What you’re seeing isn’t anything you misconfigured. One hung custom HTTP connector can take down discovery for everything, which is why status, uninstall, and restart all time out together and those remotes never show in Plugins → Yours. This is an issue we’re tracking.

There’s no reliable way to delete them from the agent while discovery is hung, so we’re clearing those three remotes from our side. I’ll confirm here once discovery comes back.

If you control the llm-wiki-cloud-is215.sevalla.app endpoint, taking it fully offline so connections are refused (not left hanging) can also unstick discovery in the meantime. No worries if you can’t - we’ll still clear them.

Same catch-22 on my Grok Bot account. Hung custom remote is invisible, so I cannot uninstall it.

Grok Bot 0.24.0 Stable
Agent: Chief of Staff
Agent id: 9cd08936-9988-4fb4-9fc0-2d054367ed8b
Cursor account: Pardeep Kullar, Pro+

Hung remote (custom URL, not a marketplace plugin):
https://api.crisp.chat/mcp/

What fails with Backend MCP tool discovery failed: DeadlineExceeded:

  • listing connectors
  • plugin search
  • RestartMcpServers
  • UninstallMcpServer

cursor.com/dashboard/plugins while signed in shows eToro, Gmail, Google Calendar, and X. No Crisp. No custom remotes. Cloud Agents page has no remotes list either.

Crisp REST still works from the agent. Discovery was already dead before eToro was added. Please clear that Crisp MCP remote from this account so the rest of the connectors can load.

Same catch-22 on my Grok Bot account. Hung custom remote is invisible, so I cannot uninstall it.

Same catch-22. Ticket T-F22915, filed 28 Aug, still open. Duplicate T-F27251 was closed. Sam (hi@) has not dropped the remote. Dean Rie DMed to wait for email.

Hung custom remote to delete: user-migadu (IMAP MCP, added via Grok Bot, not a marketplace plugin). Invisible in Plugins → Yours. GetMcpServerStatus, SearchPlugins, UninstallMcpServer all DeadlineExceeded.

Grok Bot agent: Jefe
Agent id: 2d6a7229-cc03-4849-82fa-267944727886

Please clear only user-migadu from the backend registry. Do not touch Notion or mail. Mail already works on Shell IMAP.

@mohitjain you already did this drop for the OP on 14 Aug. Same ask.

Same catch-22 still, 31 Aug. Ticket T-F22977 (filed 28 Aug). Hung remote is still https://api.crisp.chat/mcp/ (custom URL, not a marketplace plugin). Invisible in Plugins → Yours. GetMcpServerStatus / SearchPlugins / Uninstall all DeadlineExceeded. Crisp REST still works. Gmail, Calendar, and X stay dark until this ghost is dropped.

@mohitjain same ask as Jesse: please clear only that Crisp MCP remote from account Pardeep Kullar (Pro+), agent Chief of Staff, id 9cd08936-9988-4fb4-9fc0-2d054367ed8b. 0.30 did not unstick it.

Same catch-22. Hung custom Crisp MCP is invisible, so I cannot uninstall it. Please drop it from this account.

Grok Bot agent: Main Bot Agent id: 1ac277bd-a628-4ade-b188-82d1a6cb2cc8 Hung remote: https://api.crisp.chat/mcp/ (identifier likely user-Crisp) Stuck since 28 Aug 2026. Still DeadlineExceeded on 31 Aug. In-app feedback filed twice. Mobile shows Crisp timeout, Retry only, no delete.

@mohitjain same ask

Thanks all, and sorry for the trouble. This is on our side, not anything you misconfigured, and it’s an issue we’re tracking. You can’t remove these from the app right now, so we’re clearing the stuck remotes from your accounts directly @pkullar @schoberg @Jordan_Tod

Nothing you need to send us. I’ll confirm here as each is dropped and your connectors come back.

I couldn’t wait anymore, so I canceled my account, deleted it, canceled my subscription, and lost the subscription because it was until the end of September. Now I bought a new one, so…

@mohitjain - Thanks for the follow-up.. standing by.

If you can actually fix this that would be great. Been waiting a long time on this.

@mohitjain still not clear sir. Bumping this.

Hey @schoberg
You can clear this one yourself now, without touching your other connectors (this path doesn’t need the stuck remote to respond, so it works even while discovery is timing out):

  1. Open cursor.com/agents and start/open an agent to get the composer.
  2. Click the + menu → MCP Servers.
  3. Open user-migadu → Delete user config.

Removes only that remote - reload after and the rest should come back. If it doesn’t show or won’t delete, tell me and I’ll clear it from our side.

WORKED! thank you :folded_hands:
