Hey, now you can change this in the Cursor settings.
Thanks @deanrie ! And now future people who do a web search to see if this setting exists will see your post ![]()
Iāve noticed that when opening a project for the first time or reloading the window, the default display is still agent mode, regardless of whether I set the default mode for new conversations to agent or ask. This is somewhat frustrating, and I donāt know if this is a bug or a āfeatureā (lol).
Pretty sure itās a feature, lol. Clearing the cache might help.
āWhen I set the default mode to āaskā, it only applies when starting a new conversation. But if I reload the window or restart the editor, it reverts to āagentā mode. Isnāt that strange? Why not allow the editor to open directly in āaskā mode?ā
This new āfeatureā of being able to set the default mode is pretty much useless. If it doesnāt actual pay attention to those settings when starting a new chat, what is the point? Does the definition of ādefaultā mean nothing?
You need to be able to set the chat mode to ask and have it respect the setting. This has caused a lot of wasted time.
This issue was fixed and the fix was removed a while back. Is there any reason why?
Many devs including myself donāt trust agent mode to make changes on our behalf and always use the āaskā function. Itās really annoying having to switch this in every new chat.
I have the same issue. Do we know if thereās an open bug for this issue, so we can expect a fix ?
same issue, still for months. seems like its time to say goodbye to cursor
This issue persists ā Cmd + Shift + L still opens a new chat in Agent mode, ignoring the Default Mode configuration ![]()
