How do I prevent Cursor from opening New Chat window everytime I open a new folder?

I open new folders in Cursor all the time, and instead of showing the files directory, it is showing AI chat window. I rarely use the AI chat pane and I was very surprised there is no easy option to disable it.

I see there is some extension available to block the new chat but I am scared to run it on my system. Why is it not an option please

there’s currently no official way to do this (i’ll pass the feedback along though)

you can use Cmd + Opt + B when it first opens to toggle off that panel off

CMD + Opt + B works for quickly toggling but please allow customization in launch settings.
