How to disable chat opening on launch

After the update, whenever I launch cursor, the chat opens on the right-hand side and then I have to close it. I can’t find the settings to disable this behaviour, any ideas?

Hey, as far as I know, this behavior can’t be disabled, but you can quickly hide it using the shortcut Cmd + Opt + B on Mac and Ctrl + Alt + B on Windows.

Hi, thank you for the reply. The change just doesn’t make sense for my use case, why would I want to chat immediately when my project has just been loaded.

Although the new change is minor and a little annoying, I’ll be able to live with it. It just seems a bit backwards from a UX perspective.

However, this only happens during the first launch of the project. Later, if you close the chat panel and exit Cursor, the chat panel won’t be open the next time you start it.

The project. Great. On a good day, I’m opening 20-50 different projects in 2-5 workspaces/windows. I literally rage googled to get to this page.

Cursor team , please remove this feature :sob:

I was tinkering around with vscode settings and I think I figured it out.
VSCode Settings > search “Opens Maximized” > Set it to “preserve”

This is for the Panel (not the Chat), and then forces the lower Panel to be open all the time on start of Cursor.

it forces this one to open all the time, (worse than Chat opening)

Okay by preserve it probably means keep last state of the panels while closing, so maybe “never” option should not open any of the panels at all at launch.

Also dealing with that issue. Hope to get at least an option to turn off
