In my Composer context tracking box there are many files listed (80+ in most cases; screenshot). How can I remove one, or all? I tried clicking the red ‘x’ icon next to one, but Cursor then attempted tto open the file in the editor.
In this case, the reason I’d like to remove files is because for me, Cursor AI currently exhibits a prohibitive amount of input lag. My computer is reasonably powerful, and I have no other open apps on my computer. I tested on a separate computer of mine (similarly specced)–one that opened the same project, but with no files in the context tracking box. There was no input lag in that test. So as a test, I’d like to remove all these files. I realize that may affect response results, and that’s fine for now. I just want to check if that improves the lag issue at all.
Looks like the red X isn’t working as expected - to clear out your context, the easiest way is probably to just start a fresh Composer session with Cmd/Ctrl + N
If you’re seeing input lag with lots of files in context, that’s likely the cause. You can also try using .cursorignore to exclude files you don’t need indexed - this should help with performance in larger codebases
OK thanks for the reply. Yep, looks like, if we should be allowed to remove individual files, then that may not be working. Is there an existing issue for that? If not, do you want me to help get that created? Happy to help there if I can (e.g. screenshots, videos, etc).
I started a new Composer session, and my issue with input lag went away completely. I’ll plan to do this every so often.
Thanks for letting us know about the file removal issue - we’ll investigate that internally. Glad to hear starting a new Composer session helped with the lag, this is something I recommend to people.
Would it be possible to make a feature that removes everything from the context? I just added all open files via the / (slash) shortcut and i accidentally added 90+ files where i only wanted a few
