It’s been stuck for over five minutes—how can I tell if it’s still running?
Hey, thanks for the question.
Usually, if it’s been stuck for 5+ minutes, the Agent is actually stuck. Try these options:
Quick fixes:
- Cancel the current request (Stop/X button) and try a new chat
- Cursor Settings > Network > Run Diagnostics. If anything fails, switch HTTP Compatibility Mode to HTTP/1.1
- Fully restart Cursor (Quit, not just closing the window)
If that didn’t help, this is a known issue on 2.4.x. Here are workarounds that worked for others:
- Roll back to 2.3.41 Download · Cursor. This helped many users: Cursor Agent stuck in 'Planning Next Moves' - #3 by deanrie
- Run
cursor --disable-extensionsin Terminal to check if an extension is blocking it - Do a full system restart. For some users on Mac this worked: Cursor totally broken after the last update - #12 by ajmkom
For debugging, we’ll need:
- Cursor version (Menu > About Cursor > Copy)
- OS
- Request ID (Chat context menu > Copy Request ID)
Let me know what worked.
