Unlike the old chat interface within the IDE, this new interface mentions archiving chats, which seem to imply to me that there is an archive wherein chats can be reinstated but are moved to avoid cluttering up the interface. I accidentally archived something by hitting Command Shift E by accident, and fortunately I can’t find a way to recover that from an archive.

You can unarchive chats, the archive isn’t permanent.
To find an archived chat:
- In the Agents sidebar, find the Customize Sidebar button and make sure Archived Chats is enabled and visible.
- Once you see the archived chat in the list, hover over it and you should see an unarchive option.
Also good to know: Cmd+Shift+E in the Agents window archives the current chat instead of opening Explorer like it does in the regular editor. If you need the file tree in the Agents window, use Cmd+G. This shortcut conflict has already been shared with the team.
Let me know if you still can’t find the unarchive option.
this is bad design, use could accidentally click the button and find no way to restore it. Better have a notification at least.
This is terrible, i had to go back to classic view becuase i constantly archive chats because of the shortcut im used to and i cant change it… I think claude code is where its at
Archived chat: for example: Chat 1 51m(time) (and here in a button for “restore”) and three dots. Press restore.
I dont know if someone else has figured this before, but i didnt see it on chats here.

@Waldemar_Neto, yep, the UI has changed since my last reply, here are the updated steps.
Archiving doesn’t delete anything, you can always restore the chat. Depending on your version, the path is slightly different:
- In the Agents sidebar, find the filter button (funnel or list icon). In the new sidebar, enable the archive view via Filter by → Status → Archived.
- If you don’t have that button, scroll to the very bottom of the chat list. There’s a collapsed Archived section, expand it.
- When you see the chat you need, hover it and click the restore icon ↻, or right-click → Restore.
For the future about accidental archiving: in the Agents window, Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+E archives the current chat (it doesn’t open Explorer like in the editor). For the file tree, use Cmd/Ctrl+G. The team is aware of this shortcut conflict.
Let me know if you still can’t find the chat after these steps. If so, share your Cursor version from Help → About and we can narrow it down for your build.
I did success with:
- Cmd + Shift + P
- Search your prompt session with some words that you remember such as "Architecture … "
- Click on it and will restore
UI for unarchiving inside filters is quite confusing. Worth taking another pass on usability there. Unclear to me which items were archives becauase they were nested under group folders, and then sometimes I think i hit unarchive and nothing happened but the list resorted a bit.
Might be late for me, but felt buggy.

The most reliable way to bring back a specific chat right now, without using filters:
Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+P- Start typing a few words that were definitely in that chat, like the topic or a file name
- Click the session in the results and it’ll be restored
About “I clicked unarchive and nothing happened, only the list got re-sorted”, I’d like to dig into that. Can you share the version from Help → About, and did you manage to restore the chat in the end, or does restore really not work. If it happens with a specific chat, please list the steps to reproduce and we’ll take a closer look for your build.

I was able to restore it after an extra couple clicks, so it still works. Just felt buggy at the time. Sorry i don’t have much more info about it but can try it again, archiving and unarchiving.
Thanks for coming back with an update and the version. Glad the chat got restored in the end, so restore on 3.14.7 does work, the path just isn’t super obvious yet.
Agree that nesting archived chats under group folders in the filters is confusing, I already passed that to the team. So if you need to quickly pull up a specific chat again and skip the filters, the most reliable path is:
Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+P- Start typing a couple words that were definitely in that chat, like the topic or a filename
- Click the session in the results and it’ll restore
If you can catch a moment when clicking unarchive doesn’t work and the list only re-sorts, send the steps and I’ll take a closer look on your build. No need to try to break anything on purpose, it’s all good.
