I am forced to upgrade to Glass

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

I am currently on version v2.6.20.

I checked multiple times under Settings I have → Update Access → Default.

I uninstalled the app multiple times, reinstalled v.2.6.20, however I always get Restart to Update → which installed v.2.7.0 pre with Glass update.

I mentioned multiple times, really liked Cursor, all I need is a Code Editor with AI integrated which was the value proposition of Cursor until now.

Switching between Agent and Editor view still has the issue of resetting the UI to their defaults, and now we are forced to use a product where you cannot even browse the project files.

It is the first time when I am considering exploring Antigravity or Windsurf.

Steps to Reproduce

Open v.2.6.20 → forced to restart to Upgrade.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Yes - Cursor is unusable

Can try setting the update mode settings via the editor settings.

Hey, this is expected behavior. The Update Access - Default setting means you’ll automatically update to the latest stable version, not stay pinned to a specific one. Glass v2.7.0 is rolling out to the stable channel right now, so you’re getting the update.

A few options:

  1. File > New Window should open a standard IDE window.
  2. Run cursor --classic in a terminal to open the classic UI without Glass.
  3. If you want to disable auto-updates completely, go to Settings Cmd+, and set update.mode to "none".
