Integrated Terminal is unresponsive on SSH remote connection to Raspberry Pi

Describe the Bug

I’m encountering a critical issue where the integrated terminal does not work when I’m connected to a Raspberry Pi via SSH. The rest of the IDE seems to work correctly, but the terminal is completely unusable, which blocks my development workflow.

Steps to Reproduce

My Setup:
IDE: Cursor
Connection Method: SSH Remote
Remote Host: Raspberry Pi 400 (running Raspberry Pi OS / Debian-based Linux)
Local OS: [Please add your local OS here, e.g., Windows 11, macOS Sonoma, etc.]
The Problem:
I can successfully connect to my Raspberry Pi using the SSH remote feature in Cursor.
I can browse the file system, open files, and edit them without any issues.
However, when I try to open a new terminal window (via the menu Terminal > New Terminal or the + icon), a new terminal pane opens, but it’s completely black and unresponsive.
No command prompt ever appears (e.g., akalabserver@raspberrypi:~$).
I cannot type any commands or interact with the terminal in any way.
What I’ve tried so far:
Closing and reopening the terminal pane.
Disconnecting and reconnecting the SSH session.
Running commands via the AI assistant also fails, suggesting the underlying terminal process itself is failing to launch correctly.

Expected Behavior

Expected Behavior:
The integrated terminal should open a live, interactive shell session on the remote Raspberry Pi, displaying a command prompt and allowing me to execute commands.
This seems to be a bug related to how the terminal is instantiated in an SSH session specifically with a Raspberry Pi. Has anyone else experienced this? Are there any known workarounds or specific settings I might need to adjust to get this working?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Operating System

Windows 10/11

Current Cursor Version (Menu → About Cursor → Copy)

idk the latest one cant find it

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Yes - Cursor is unusable

its the same problem as in the end of this thread:

  1. Cursor’s Developer Console reveals the root cause: After a successful SSH handshake, the initialization of the remote workspace environment within Cursor fails. The console logs multiple errors, such as Error: No full commit provider registered and TreeError [DebugRepl] Tree input not set.

but unfortunately there ist no solution? I send logs to the support via email but maybe someone in here got an idea?

Hi @Alexander96, could you run the “Generate Connection Report” command and share the output so we can take a closer look? Thanks!

=== SSH Configuration ===

User SSH Config:
File not found: /home/akalabserver/.ssh/config

System SSH Config:

This is the ssh client system-wide configuration file. See

ssh_config(5) for more information. This file provides defaults for

users, and the values can be changed in per-user configuration files

or on the command line.

Configuration data is parsed as follows:

1. command line options

2. user-specific file

3. system-wide file

Any configuration value is only changed the first time it is set.

Thus, host-specific definitions should be at the beginning of the

configuration file, and defaults at the end.

Site-wide defaults for some commonly used options. For a comprehensive

list of available options, their meanings and defaults, please see the

ssh_config(5) man page.

Include /etc/ssh/ssh_config.d/*.conf

Hi @MikeM and @Alexander96 – thank you for the logs; nothing looks wrong there. From the screenshots, this error is similar to that when the native modules do not load properly. In a terminal on your remote machine, could you run ldd --version and share the output?
