I just subscribed to Cursor Pro today, but I’ve realized I need the additional usage from Pro+ instead. On the billing page, I only see the option to pay for Pro+ as a new subscription, and I don’t want to end up paying for both plans simultaneously.
Has anyone successfully upgraded from Pro to Pro+ on the same day? Will I be charged for both plans, or is the unused portion of my Pro subscription prorated and credited toward the Pro+ plan?
I’d really appreciate any clarity on how this works before I proceed.
Hey, thanks for the request. Good call checking this ahead of time.
Quick version: you won’t end up with two subscriptions, and your remaining Pro time won’t be lost. Here’s how it works when you upgrade on the same account:
Your current Pro subscription is automatically canceled at the moment you upgrade.
Pro+ starts right away, and your billing cycle resets to the upgrade date.
You’re charged the full Pro+ price, and the unused part of Pro is returned as a prorated refund or credit. That’s a separate transaction and can show up a few days later.
Since you bought Pro today, you should get back almost all of it, either as a refund to your card or as account credit, depending on your payment method.
If the billing page shows Pro+ as a new subscription, that’s just how the checkout UI looks. Proration still applies.
One important thing: this only works if Pro and the upgrade to Pro+ are on the same account email. Before upgrading, double-check you’re logged in with the same email you used to buy Pro. If Pro is on a different account and you buy Pro+ on this one, then yes, you’ll have two separate subscriptions. So make sure it’s the same account first.
We can’t calculate the exact numbers for your account on the forum. If the prorated credit doesn’t show up within a few days after upgrading, email [email protected] and they can check your specific billing.
