Limits during a chat session

Hi guys, Im excited about using Cursor, it really exceeded my expectations . I have a newbie question. Is there a word count limit or a character limit or a time limit in the chat session with Cursor? And if there are any limits how one would go to track the progress of the chat session on how far is it onthe limit scale? The reason I m asking is because ok Grok for example, It hapened to me twice that the chat session started to be sluggish and taking forever to load and basically makng it impossible to access. Thanks

There is not a hard number of a limit, it depends on:

  • Context (amount of files attached to chat)
  • Length of chat (long chats start to hallucinate or not work sometimes)
  • new chat (new chats often fix the issue from previous chat, you can use the summarize and start new chat feature at chat bottom if it gets long.
  • file sizes (large files with over 500-1000 lines are making it hard for AI to edit)
  • task planning (pre-planning what you want to do changes how you approach the usage of AI)
  • changes (many changes or changes in decisions may trip up AI if its done in same chat)
  • usage of cursor features. It helps to understand features of cursor https://docs.cursor.com/
  • AI models used (not all are good for everything, and a hyped model is not necessarily working well for everyone).
  • fast/slow requests, see docu as well, influences speed.

Thank you for your reply. It’s clear to me now that when things get sluggish generally speaking is time for a new chat haha.Appreciate it.
