Linear - Cannot find user for Datadog created issues

We have Cursor integration enabled in Linear. We also have Linear integration enabled in Datadog.

When a Datadog monitor triggers an alert, it creates an issue in Linear and tags “@Cursor” there. We would like this to automatically start a Cursor Cloud Agent, but right now we are getting this error:

I couldn't find a Cursor user to associate with this session. Please try again!

If I then open the Cursor chat in Linear and write anything there, the Cloud Agent starts successfully.

How can we fix this? We just want the Datadog-created issues to automatically trigger the Cloud Agent without having a Linear user manually write to Cursor there.

We are having a similar issue where we trigger Linear to create ticket and assign to Cursor from a slack workflow. The agent is stuck with the exact same error.

Hey, this is a known limitation right now. When a request is created by an external automation (Datadog, Slack Workflows, Linear API tokens, etc.) instead of a human Linear user, the Cloud Agent can’t tell which Cursor account it should run under, so you get the “couldn’t find Cursor user” error.

The workaround you found is currently the only one. A linked Cursor user needs to post something in the thread so the agent can associate the session.

The team knows about this gap. I can’t share an ETA, but your report (and confirmation from @Michael_Chen on the Slack Workflow side) helps us prioritize it.

I’ll update this thread if anything changes.

Thanks for you reply! My workaround is to use the Linear app step instead of tagging Linear to trigger the flow. That way, it creates the ticket and trigger Cursor on my user’s behalf instead of slack bot.
