Long Context Chats?

Not sure if it’s a well kept secret or something, can’t really find info on how to use it and when it works (own API key vs Cursor plan).
I would love to use it, ideally in a simple and accessible way but atm I’m lost on how to use it all.
Is it just me? Can someone enlighten me?

Hmmm, that’s not good. Would love to pay the price (found it in the account settings under usage-based pricing) or use my own API.

So I didn’t miss anything, they just don’t share information?

I came here for the long context models as well.

I’m one of those guys who isn’t yet convinced that using AI for coding provides any productivity boost. I’ve tried a few different options, and I always end up giving up on them after a month or two. But I’ve been using Cursor for longer than that and I thought I finally had found a good use for these tools.

I get 500 fast premium requests a month. I rarely ever use even 100. I mostly use the chat to generate unit tests. I add the folder I want to test and optionally other relevant folders or files, I create the empty test file, and I list (and explain) every single unit test I want it to write. I also add a testing_utils folder we have, and tell it to use utils from it when it makes sense. I also add another unit test file as an example, so it knows how I want these tests to be structured. I found this approach much better than simply asking it to “write unit tests”. Surprisingly, the tests are usually correct on the first attempt! And because it uses the utilities I ask it to, they are very readable.

Sorry… I meant to say: they USED to be correct, and they USED to use these utils. Now the results are often garbage. Without the long context models, it simply doesn’t have enough context for this approach (my guess). Sometimes it’s so bad that it uses the wrong testing framework! It’s as if it hadn’t even looked at the example test file.

I wouldn’t even mind if the long context models cost 2 credits instead of 1. But not having them at all makes Cursor as useless as any other tool I’ve tried before for my specific use case.

Please bring them back.
