Missing "Delete" button for conversations? Only seeing "Archive"

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to clean up my workspace and want to permanently delete some old chat conversations. However, I can’t seem to find a “Delete” button anywhere.

When I hover over a conversation, the only action available is “Archive”.

When I right-click to open the context menu, I only see options to Pin, Rename, Mark as Unread, and Archive.

Is there a hidden way to permanently delete these chats, or is archiving the only option available right now?

Thanks in advance for the help!

WEB VERSION OF CURSOR

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, this isn’t a bug, it’s an intentional change in the new UI. The Delete button was replaced with Archive to help prevent accidentally losing chat history. Archived chats are removed from the active list, and you can restore them later if needed.

On the web version, Archive is currently the only way to remove chats from the list. In the IDE, in the editor window (not the Agents sidebar), deleting via the chat history dropdown is still available for now.

There’s already a request to bring back a full Delete option here: Allow single click deleting chats from chat history panel and Agent Side Bar, feel free to add your vote there.
