Custom Modes missing in Cursor 2.1.0 (VSCode 1.105.1)

The system prompt or Custom Instruction as it was called in Custom Modes is essentially a /command that you can still create with Commands | Cursor Docs I agree it makes no sense to copy paste frequent prompts which is why we created the commands. From that perspective you are moving the instructions from Custom Modes to Commands and you can have more than five.

Hey, thanks for the report. That thread was closed because it’s better to keep discussion for a specific request in active Feature Request threads, not in a closed bug report.

Custom Modes is one of the most common requests, I can see that on the forum. To keep votes and use cases from getting split across a bunch of threads, it’s best to collect everything in one open FR. Here are the right ones where you can vote and describe your workflow (which modes you need, and which tools or models you need):

• Custom Modes Were Removed Without a Functional Replacement
• Explicit tool and mcp permissions for custom commands (Custom Mode removal breaks compliance)

I don’t have a timeline for bringing the feature back right now, and I don’t want to promise anything. But the request is definitely on the radar, and the more detail users share about their workflows in those threads, the better it is for prioritization. If you post your use case there, it’ll help.
