I have “on-demand” billing set to off. I used 100% of monthly subscription allotment. I expected to get an error in Cursor about “out of credits” or something like that. Instead it seems to auto-fallback to “other models”, which “consume on-demand spend”.
Can you help me understand how auto-using “other models” which “consume on-demand spend” is coherent wrt “on-demand billing off”?
Nothing here has used on-demand spend. With on-demand disabled, none of your requests can be billed on-demand, and your account confirms that: every request is still counted as included usage.
What you are seeing (although I think you’ve figured this out) is how the two included pools work together. Your Pro plan includes a Cursor Models pool (Grok 4.6, Grok 4.5, Composer) and an Other Models pool. Once the Cursor Models pool is fully used, Cursor keeps serving the same model and counts that usage against your Other Models included allowance instead. That is the 7% you see on the Other Models bar. It is part of your subscription, not extra spend.
The footer text under the Cursor Models bar is a bit compressed: “consumes Other Models quota or on-demand spend” means Other Models allowance first, and on-demand spend only if that pool is also used up and you have on-demand enabled. Since yours is disabled, when the Other Models pool also reaches 100% you will get the usage limit message you were expecting, and everything resets at the start of your next billing cycle.
