I use Chat as Editor tabs and like that a lot. What I want is a keyboard shortcut that opens a new Agent Chat tab in the editor group I’m already in.

Today the shortcut composer.createNewComposerTab always opens Chat in the Chat Editor group and splits the pane. That’s not how normal editor tabs work, so I have to drag the tab into the group I was working in. After I’ve done that once, later shortcuts do open new chats in that same group — but the first open in a fresh window still lands in the Chat group and forces a drag.

I open a new Cursor window per issue workspace pretty often, so I hit this a lot. A command like “Open Agent Chat in Current Editor Group” that I can bind would fix it.

Hey Jason, thanks for the clear repro. You’re right that with Chat as Editor tabs, a shortcut that opens a new Agent Chat in the group you’re already in would match normal editor-tab behavior a lot better than always landing in the Chat group and forcing a drag. We’ve let the team know and this is something we’re tracking. No timeline to share yet, but I’ll post here when there’s an update.
