Opus 4.7 only has Extra High effort cycle

Hi,

I am using the new agents window of cursor.

I remember Opus 4.7 high and xhigh being available. Starting from today I noticed Opus 4.7 is always “Extra High” and trying to cycle through efforts like shown in the tooltip on hover is not working for Opus 4.7.

I thought this cycling was just buggy but it works for e.g. sonnet.

So to my question:

Is there only one reasoning effort version of Opus 4.7 in place? Choosing between xhigh/high in the past was good depending on how much reasoning I want.

Being forced to always use “Extra High” (xhigh) does not seem like a reasonable choice from a developers perspective.

Could this be enforced by my organizations rules, or was this a change rolled our independent from organization use?

Best,

Jules

I blew through my entire month’s token budget in two days and had no idea why. It was because this was set to xhigh as default at some point. I emailed Cursor but their automated AI reply bot wouldn’t give me a refund.

Hi Jules, Thanks for the detailed report. The issue with Opus 4.7’s effort cycling has been resolved on our end via a backend server-side change, so no app update is needed on your side. You should once again be able to cycle between High and Extra High effort levels for Opus 4.7, just like you can with Sonnet. To confirm: there are still multiple effort levels available for Opus 4.7 — it was not an intentional change to lock everyone to Extra High.

Please let me know if you’re continuing to see the same behavior, or if you have any other questions or concerns. Happy to dig in further if anything still feels off.
