Panel UI section is closed everytime when I left Cursor window

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

When I open Cursor IDE, I can see the layout settings icon on the top right side. And “Panel” option is disabled by default. After I enable it, the “termina” window appears at the bottom center side with other options, such as “debug console”, “output”, etc…
Then, I switch to my browser app and back to the Cursor, and I can see that terminal window dissapers and “panel” option is disabled in the settings

Steps to Reproduce

Open settings via settings icon on the top right side and enable “panel” option

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey thanks for the report. This sounds like an issue with panel state restoration when switching window focus. When you leave Cursor and come back, the panel shouldn’t close automatically.

This might be related to how Cursor saves UI state when losing window focus on macOS. In version 2.2.20 this could be a new regression.

Meanwhile try:

  • Fully restart Cursor (CMD+Q, then open again)
  • Enable the panel and keep the Cursor window active for a few minutes - this might help preserve the state
  • If the issue repeats, disable extensions: run cursor --disable-extensions and check

I’ll pass it to the team for investigation - this looks like a UI state persistence issue when switching windows on macOS.
