Performance of Auto has become unusable

Describe the Bug

Ask/Auto responses are taking 10, 20, 30, 40 seconds. This is for a brand new project folder with only a handful of text and markdown files.

Steps to Reproduce

Set it to Ask/Auto and ask the most basic question you can think of. Minimum 10 seconds for a response. And the quality of responses is much much lower than it has been for the past month.

Expected Behavior

Auto has been lightning fast since I started using it a month ago. Responses in a few seconds.

But as of today, it goes through a ‘Planning next moves’ step (which I don’t remember seeing before today), and this seems to cause excessive processing.

Operating System

I think this is because Auto started using GPT-5 thinking, which was taking like 3-4 mins instead of 10 seconds. The issue seems to have been resolved from my experience.

please bring back auto thinking!!! Have thinking be an option. Shouldn’t be forced to pay for thinking.

Right now its free, so just manually choose gpt-5 thinking instead of auto. You can see its indicated for free. So get all your “thinking” done in the next week while its free.
