Plan Mode Creation Fails Consistently — UI Shows "Created plan" but Draft Remains Empty and Build Non-Responsive

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

I’m reporting a critical, reproducible issue in Plan mode where plan generation appears to complete (UI displays “Created plan” status) but the draft remains empty and the Build button does not respond.

Reproduction Steps

Open Cursor IDE with project files and code context provided.
Submit a natural-language request in Plan mode.
After clarifying questions, Cursor displays: “Thought for 21s” → plan summary preview → “Created plan” label.
Issue: Draft remains empty; clicking Build yields no response or error message.
Environment

Client: Cursor IDE
Network: Nekobox VPN (verified as non-causal; other modes work normally)
Reproducibility: Consistent—occurs with all prompts and across model switches (GPT-5, etc.)
Onset: Past 2–3 days, no local configuration changes
Observed Behavior

UI confirms plan generation (“Created plan” message displayed)
Zero draft content appears in the editor
Build button unresponsive; no error surfaced
All other IDE modes function normally
Suspected root cause: Server-side content persistence, race condition during draft finalization, or unhandled exception after generation completes

Diagnostics Conducted

:white_check_mark: Model switching (GPT-5, others) — no change

:white_check_mark: Issue reproducible across all prompt types

:white_check_mark: Network isolation tested (VPN not the cause)

Requested Actions

Confirm if this is a known regression.
If unknown, specify required diagnostics (browser console logs, network traces, request IDs) and collection method for the web client.
Escalate to engineering with reproducibility attestation and request ID above.
Thank you for your assistance. I’m available for immediate diagnostics.

Best regards,

Steps to Reproduce

Occurs consistently across all prompts and all models (tested GPT-5-high-fast, others). No intermittent behavior—100% reproducible given the same project context and Plan mode request.

Hey, thanks for the report. This is a known issue, and the team is investigating it. We’ve received several similar reports affecting versions 1.7.52–1.7.54.

Workaround: while the team works on a fix, you can view the plan details by switching from Markdown to Preview in the editor.

I have this same issue. Switching to preview mode shows me the checklist, but not the whole plan unfortunately. On occasion, after clicking around for a bit, the plan will sometimes appear finally in the text editor.
