This situation positions Cursor as one of the most expensive IDEs which is not a pleasant spot to be in.
For comparison, in VS Code you can get unlimited GPT-4.1 and unlimited GPT-5 Mini for just $10/month.
These are two very capable models, completely without usage caps.

Isn’t there at least one model that Cursor could make available for unlimited use to paying customers?
Right now, a $20/month Cursor plan (compared to $10/month in VS Code) can easily be exhausted within two or three days or even sooner for normal use.
It seems logical that customers should have access to some unlimited option.
Could you work out a deal with OpenAI to provide at least one strong, free-to-use model for subscribers?
Fair point.
I tried […] just now, and I’m not satisfied.
I feel that just like Anthropic has some magic in their models, Cursor has a kind of magic in the way they make the models work so the models aren’t lazy and don’t keep needing to be told over and over, “Yes, continue, I approve, go on.”
But still, if everything is based on tokens, it really does start to become a very expensive business.
