GPT-5 free until when

I am finding quite confusing information about when GPT-5 will stop being free. On the app, it says it’s going to be free for the launch week, which I’m not sure exactly what it means because today is Thursday. Is it going to be free until Sunday, Monday, or next Thursday?

I guess they will monitor usage and decide on the go.

I noticed you can see the GPT cost on the app marked as “bonus” but on the release notes it doesn’t specify what this is.

It is counting :heavy_dollar_sign: :money_with_wings:
Both the fast version and the normal version.

I don’t see free at all tbh. Not complaining, but it’s definitely charging me for using it. I switched back to auto after I noticed the model stopped doing anything other than generating text.

Even it says cost to you 0 dollars, but the bottom line is increasing and getting closer to the limit.
I mean, do they keep what they claim and promise? I am not sure what to make of it. Maybe I am wrong. No fuss.

Hey, I’ve sent you a private message.

I was using it to check how it handled a refactoring given it said it was free and after a few messages it hit a rate limit and now it is prompting me to upgrade. This is so frustrating I understand rate limits but can’t it not stop in the middle of the refactoring without warning or at the very list a summary of what was done and what is still missing to do? I am a heavy user and I was looking to see if it was good enough in cursor for me to pay for the $200 plan as in 2 weeks my claude code plan runs out.

Yes, same here, I am Claude code max user and was excited to tryout Cursor with GPT5, it said it’s free but it’s counting towards credit, which make me also question the worthiness of the claims. I was really surprised with the new pricing model of it anyways. Not sure if paying 200 euros, and I will end up using in one week….

Hi everyone. GPT-5 is free during launch week and is shown for transparency so you can see the model usage.

Have you guys lost your minds? I just checked and there are the following options:

gpt-5
gpt-5-fast (thinking)
gpt-5-nano
gpt-5-mini
gpt5-turbo
gpt-5-high (thinking)
gpt5-low (thinking)
gpt5-high-fast (thinking)
gpt5-low-fast (thinking)

I thought someone told me GPT5 was going to be simple with no model choice needed.

@futuretech we are showing models as available per API.

In ChatGPT it may have just one option, but via API users may want different models for different purposes.

Just to add, you may see the models count towards your totals on cursor.com and in-app, but the discounted rate should take effect as you continue to use Cursor. We don’t exclude it from the charts so you can see how much you’ve used!

“Launch week”? What does this mean, exactly?

  1. This working week, so it ends tomorrow, Saturday?
  2. It includes the weekend as well, so it covers tomorrow (Sat) and Sunday?
  3. Or is it one whole week since its launch, so from this past Thursday until next week, Thursday??

@condor @danperks @deanrie Can you please explain?

I specifically asked that several times and they ignored that. I don’t think they want to commit to any date and they’ll see how it goes, if people abuse it I’m sure from Monday it won’t be free anymore.

I’m confused — why does it show as a bonus, but then in the modal it counts toward my overall usage limit?

@valeriuv its not charged or reducing your usage benefit. It is shown so you can see the consumption and can plan your usage better once we switch to regular pricing.

@DavidCodex @LARAMediaGroup we will announce next week when the model goes back into regular pricing.

gpt-5 has not only a standard payment mode, but also a flex mode, which is slower but 2 times cheaper. Why is it not available in the cursor?

We do not yet have all models selectable but will expand this.

Was it only free until Sunday? Or is it currently free too? Until when?!?

Not free anymore.
