Pro quota used up in 5 days against normal usage of 30 days

just noticed that cursor changed default auto model to grok high and it consumed my quota that last for 30 days in just 1 week. :sob::sob:

I found out when I checked usage in settings . That’s really unfair to change default usage to model that eat up quota like crazy

Thanks for flagging this, and sorry for the surprise when you opened your usage page.

Worth correcting up front: Auto did not select Grok 4.6 High for you. Your Auto requests this cycle went mostly to Composer and Grok 4.5. The Grok 4.6 High requests came from the model picker being set to it directly, and those only started several days after the heaviest usage had already happened.

What actually consumed most of the allowance was two days early in this cycle, which between them account for well over half your monthly usage. Both were long agent sessions: a couple dozen conversations total, but each running well over a hundred model calls. Usage scales with how long a single conversation gets, because every turn carries the whole conversation so far along with it.

A few things that will stretch it much further:

  • Start a new chat per task rather than continuing one long thread.
  • Leave the model on Auto instead of pinning Grok 4.6 High. High reasoning effort costs noticeably more per request, and it has been your most expensive model these past few days.
  • Point at the specific files you need instead of attaching large folders and letting the agent read broadly.
  • Keep the usage page open on heavy days so you can catch an expensive session while it is running.

If your workload genuinely needs this much every month, Pro+ is the natural next step and comes with a substantially larger monthly allowance than Pro, which would keep you working instead of hitting a wall partway through the cycle.

On the default itself, I hear you that this felt like it changed without warning, and I have passed that feedback along.
