The latest couple updates to Cursor have made the experience of using it (the only thing Cursor offers that is unique) far worse than other alternatives.
- The ‘tabs’ created from starting a new context or chat are abysmal. The chat panel is a thin sidebar in Cursor, and this creates a horizontal tab control just to the left of the + button which is unreadable after more than one tab is there, and instantly gets overwhelmed and unusable. Even clearing out the old tabs is a pain because there’s no width to navigate and close them.
- We already had the ‘previous chats’ list at the bottom of the panel when we start a new context if needed. This is BY FAR the dumbest, worst, and least-helpful update to this program yet.

Cursor has now stopped listening to my app-level rules. It was always hit-or-miss when I tried to use workspace or project rules, but the agent always followed my app-wide rules from the settings. Now it just ignores them half the time, and if I remind it to review and follow the rules it works for 2-3 prompts before ignoring them again. If this doesn’t work, there’s no reason for me to use Cursor and not VS Code with another AI service that actually respects user and system prompts.

The bot frequently seems to get lost and stops doing anything. I’m not sure if this is the new usage model or pricing causing delays, but I haven’t even come close to my limit in the last week and the bot frequently just sits there doing nothing for 5-10 minutes until I stop it.
- Creating a new context fixes this immediately, and other IDEs have no problems with the same Anthropic/OpenAI agents, so there’s clearly a problem with how Cursor is handling context and prompting the bot APIs.
- There is some weirdness with the UI where focus and panel/window selection is not working correctly now. I have to click on the terminal sometimes THREE TIMES to get it to actually move the cursor there and not just enter my terminal commands in the actual code file like a muppet. This just started, so whatever updates you made to this part of the UI please fix or revert them. This is unbelievably frustrating when I’ve just spent 8 hours fixing code.
But hey, you changed ‘Apply’ to ‘Keep’ so there’s clearly progress being made.
Please justify why I pay for this service. The product is not justifying it anymore.
