When running multiple agent sessions (or working on other things while the agent is processing), it would be extremely helpful to receive push notifications when the agent needs user input or approval.
Current Behavior
Cursor v0.48+ has sound notifications (Settings > Sound Notifications)
There’s an orange dot indicator on chat tabs that need attention
However, if Cursor is minimized or you’re in another app/tab, these can easily be missed
Proposed Feature
Add an optional push notification system that alerts users when:
The agent has completed processing and awaits review
The agent needs explicit approval (e.g., for terminal commands, file changes)
The agent has encountered an error or blocker that requires user input
(Bonus) A connected mobile app or webhook integration for truly away-from-desk notifications
Use Cases
Running long agent tasks while doing code reviews in another window
Having multiple Cursor tabs/projects open simultaneously
Stepping away from the computer briefly while the agent works
Working with Background Agent and wanting to know when it needs attention
Implementation Ideas
Desktop OS notifications (macOS/Windows/Linux native)
Browser-style push notifications for Cursor Web
Mobile companion app (even read-only status + notification would be valuable)
Webhook/API integration for custom notification setups (Slack, Discord, SMS, etc.)
Could you test the current desktop notifications and sound notifications? If they don’t work well enough, for example they don’t show when Cursor is minimized, it’d be really helpful to share details so we can improve it.
+1. A mobile app is probably a big ask, but a webhook would be a game changer in terms of keeping apprised of desktop agent status, and is a much smaller lift. Something as simple as a slack ping when an agent needs something is a great value add.
If you want something working now: **Voxlert** does this for desktop via voice notifications.
Each Cursor session gets a distinct character voice (SHODAN, StarCraft Adjutant, etc.). When the agent finishes or needs input, you hear it — even if you’re in another window. No mobile push, but if you’re at your computer it works reliably.
