I downloaded some free Cursor, it uses default Composer 1 and is set on “Agent”. How is “Agent” available for free users, Agent I read selects best, for the given task, “Pro” AI? What is limit of amount of usage of free AI? I want to see prices of my usage. Usage shown on the web site, on dashboard, shows negligible cost, what, how, is that existing for a free plan? Cost of “plans” I found is a static number that does not show how much usage it allows. Costs in “Docs”, “Model Pricing” show prices I want to pay for if free version I am prevented using, I do not know how to pay that when plans provided in the main page show different.
Hey, thanks for the request. I’ll go through it step by step:
Agent mode and the free plan:
Agent isn’t a model name. It’s a Composer mode that automatically picks the best model for the task. It’s available to all users, including the free tier. The difference between Free and Pro is usage limits and which models you can access, not whether you can use Agent mode.
Limits and pricing:
Cursor uses a pay-per-usage model based on the API pricing of the models (details here: Models | Cursor Docs). The structure is:
- Free tier: Limited usage (exact limits depend on the model)
- Pro (USD 20/month): Includes USD 20 of API usage plus bonus quota
- Pro Plus (USD 70) and Ultra (USD 200): More included usage
Dashboard and costs:
What you see as “negligible cost” on the dashboard is tracking your API usage. If you’re on the free tier, you have some free usage limit. The dashboard shows how much of it you’ve used, even if you aren’t paying directly.
A couple quick questions so I can give an exact answer:
- What status does your dashboard show, trial, free, or Pro?
- Where exactly do you see conflicting prices, the homepage vs the docs vs the dashboard?
Dashboard, after my name and before e-mail adress, showes “Free Plan”, yet, further assistance I seek not, thanks to thee - everything I wanted to understand - now I understand, for if to this “Topic” adding clear answers on questionnes of mine, as the last and obvious message, would to others of use be - adding them I will, so tell me.
