I’ve recently started getting the error “We’ve hit a rate limit with the provider. Please switch to the ‘auto’ model, another model, or try again in a few moments” — even though I’m already using the auto model.

This is really frustrating and makes me not want to continue using Cursor. I need a reliable tool, not something that feels like a toy for experimenting with different models.

I don’t know how to reproduce it.

The rate limit should not appear on auto model

For AI issues: which model did you use?

Auto

For AI issues: add Request ID with privacy disabled

I don’t have it. It didn’t display request ID.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Sometimes - I can sometimes use Cursor

Same experiences here. It seems like a little issue with it right now - perhaps a lot of demand.

Chatgpt4 model I try to test afterwards with a 2-line request to find that the response is that the “message is too long” :slight_smile:

Same issue here, I thought I was going crazy !

Good to know it’s a bug and not just a (very) bad pricing / limit change.

It has been UNBEARABLE to work in the past 6 hours though, please fix ASAP.

This issue occurs because many users are now using Cursor’s auto mode at the same time, causing the AI provider to reach shared rate limits, even for users already on the auto mode.

Also having this problem for a few days now. Using Cursor 1.5 (because Cursor 1.7 doesn’t work with “sudo”!)
