In the latest version of Cursor as of 3-29-2025, Copilot Chat is still disabled. If this isn’t added back soon, I know Cursor will lose Users. If its about competition and not a technical issue, then why no at least allow Pro subscribers to have the option to enable it.
For me personally, not only did removing Copilot remove any interest in subscribing to Pro, I no longer use Cursor at all. I literally forgot it was even on my computer.
What makes it worst is the fact that Cursor is the only IDE/code editor that doesn’t have a student discount, trial, or other option to even test whether it makes sense to upgrade.
Look at how Webstromm ended up changing their subscription pricing to free after already offering a short trial option and free student licenses. Not providing education discounts is essentially saying you don’t care if future developers/engineers use Cursor or about increasing your market share in the future. For a team who’s made pretty forward thinking and generally good product decisions, this is extremely disappointing.
Looks like it’s back to VS Code/Jetbrains until the Cursor team prioritizes offering the best product, not just one that does a single thing better than better than Copilot (Agent mode vs Copilots Edits). Especially since theres now other extensions like Continue that allow MCP server incorporation.
Serious question for the community, what is the point or benefit of Cursor over VS Code w/ Github Copilot and/or Continue?
