Hi,
I’m a paying Cursor user working on a real project (Ren’Py game, large repo). I didn’t change any settings. I simply reopened my project folder the same way I always do.
Cursor opened in what looks like an Agent-first layout: the chat/agents panel dominated the window, and I couldn’t see my project the way I’m used to (classic IDE: file tree + editor). I thought the project was broken or missing. I spent about an hour trying menus, “Open Recent” (hard to find), and help from another tool before someone told me to use IDE + the arrow in the top-right to restore the classic interface.
That worked immediately. My files were never gone — only the UI mode had changed without any clear notice.
What I want:
- Persist the last layout (if I use IDE, reopen in IDE).
- Or ask once on first launch after an update: “Agent layout / IDE layout”.
- Document this in release notes when you change default UI — many of us rely on Cursor as our daily editor, not only as a chat window.
Imposing a new default layout silently is a serious productivity hit. Please treat editor layout as a first-class preference, not something users have to rediscover.
Thanks.
