Given the new ‘cloud agent onboarding’, I opened my command panel, typed onboarding and hit enter on the only entry.
Unless there’s something I’m missing, this is the Cursor onboarding setup and basically gets you stuck in the onboarding screen even after restarts and destroys at least part of your configuration.
Why is there no basic popup that says ‘are you sure’ or something like that if a single mistake in triggering that command can destroy your configuration?
Hey, thanks for the report. Just to clarify, Cloud Agent setup is done on the web at https://cursor.com/onboard, not through the Command Palette. More details are in the Cloud Agent setup docs: Setup | Cursor Docs.
That said, the fact that the “Start Onboarding” command in the Command Palette can lock you in and reset your config without any confirmation is a real issue. I’ve passed this to the team.
To get out of this state, try completing the onboarding all the way to the end. That should take you back to the normal editor. If you had Settings Sync enabled, your config should restore after that.
A couple questions: what Cursor version and OS are you on, and what exactly was lost, like settings, extensions, or keybindings?
