👨‍🎓 Student Discount - Details, Updates, Q&As

Hi @danperks
I am a student at the University of Helsinki with an @helsinki.fi email address. Is this university one of your partners? I have been verified with SheerID, but I couldn’t apply the discount.

Hi all,

Due to the popularity of this offer, we are current unable to respond via this thread to people individually.

Please see questions 9 & 10 regarding the emails some of you may have received, and our plan for abuse and fraud moving forward.

Also, once again, please do not request any specific countries or schools, at this will not help prioritise them over any others!
Once we are able to confirm that only real students would be verified correctly, will we then be able to increase the eligibility to those countries and schools.

Thanks for your understanding, we really want to bring this to as many students as possible

Many countries use domains like ac.uk or ac.kr instead of .edu.

If you’re blocking non-.edu domains while claiming to verify “real students,” isn’t that effectively a U.S.-only policy? The more I hear your explanation, the more infuriating it becomes. For example, GitHub Copilot verifies actual student status regardless of the domain format used by different countries. They don’t treat accounts as fraudulent just because the domain isn’t .edu.

I’m deeply disillusioned by your mistake, your excuses, and the deceptive way you’ve handled this.

I Got the “successfully confirmed student status, apply discount” email. But clicking on it, nothing happens afterwards. I used the same .se(Sweden) address for both. Can anyone help me with that?

Now that’s reassuring, thanks for the good news! Hopefully you’ll sort out the verification process and remove the country restrictions soon. Obviously, I’m willing to go through whatever verification process required.

Please ask for verification of student ID, transcript, tuition bill, etc. to ensure that only students are entitled to the benefits (Edu email is easy to get). Abusers are not eligible for this benefit. If you are a student, there is no reason to object.

Unable to pay after verifying student account. Error 500 | Internal Server Error. My account was deleted today. :upside_down_face:

I would like to add that requiring accounts with an @edu extension for student verification is a good idea. In Vietnam, due to weak management, student email accounts are very easy to compromise. Abusers can log into their personal Cursor accounts and then log into student email accounts to verify them, and… tada, their personal accounts illegally receive student benefits. Requiring an @edu account extension will prevent them from doing this.

I have the same issue. I am a complete verified student with an @alunos.uminho.pt email from the University of Minho, Portugal. But when I press ‘apply discount’ and go to the upgrade to Pro account page on cursor.com, the discount still does not apply. Please help me with this issue

my country, Brazil, got delisted, why?

same in Israel

In the website, they mention

Which universities are eligible?

Due to our verification process, this promotion is only available for verified students at universities in the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States.

However, except the US, all other countries do not have .edu email.

It seems like the student discount is mage only, but they advertise the plan as it available over the world for all the students.

Thank you, this is very important to us enthusiastic students.

Hi, I think Uploading student identity verification, coupled with face-to-face live streaming dialogue, can effectively avoid abuse, and the cost will not be higher than the cost of being abused. At the same time, in this process, students’ opinions and insights can also be asked to increase the stickiness of users.

"Hello Cursor team, firstly, I am very grateful that you didn’t recklessly cancel all student discount offers. My question is about point #10 of the announcement: ‘In the coming days, you may receive an email asking you to reverify your account, potentially with additional steps involved to ensure only students are able to get this discount. Please complete this as soon as you can to ensure your plan remains active.’

Does this subsequent email verification include students from non-supported countries/regions?"

Hey! I think this is a recurring issue - .ca emails from Canadian Universities get the email that they are verified but when you click on it and also try upgrading to pro - there is no discount applied. Kindly help! My email is [email protected]

yeah that’s also what I want to know

Dear danperks:
I really like the cursor mode and style. I urgently hope you can tell me how to save it after I applied for the student discount using my personal account. I got the successful email but it cannot be applied to the personal account and student email address I used when applying.

Hi,
Yesterday, I created an account using my .edu email and successfully verified my student status with SheerID. However, after that, I wasn’t able to access the payment page — it kept showing a “500 Internal Server Error.” Today, every time I try to log in, I get the message “Please sign in to view your settings”, and it redirects me back to the login page.
