Switching from Chat to Composer freezes Cursor and takes 30-45 seconds to recover

I am using Cursor Windows 11. I have been using Cursor (Pro) for about 2 months.

In the last couple of days, when switching from Chat to Composer, it’s taking an age to switch to the Composer tab. For example, if I am using Chat, then I click on the Composer tab, Cursor freezes and after 10-15 seconds a “Windows is not responding” dialog is displayed. If I click ‘Wait’, after another 10-15 seconds, I get the same “…not responding” dialog, then when I click ‘Wait’ the Composer tab will become active after another 10-15 seconds.

When switching from the Composer tab to the Chat tab, it’s instantaneous.

This is a new phenomenon and the delay is consistent; it happens every time I switch from Chat to Composer, so I have pretty-much given up using Chat.

Is anyone having this issue?

Is there anything I can do to solve this problem?

I’m not experiencing any other issues with my Windows PC - I use it 8 hours a day for work, and no other application is freezing like this.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @digitalic

Is it happening only in this project or in different ones? Is your Composer panel in a floating window or docked in the sidebar? Can you also check if any processes are running in your files, like linting or something else? See if these processes are using “Memory” or “CPU” at that moment. Try opening a new chat and Composer, and see if the same thing happens. If the problem stays, please check your logs by following this guide:

Also, if everything looks fine, try disabling your extensions if there are just a few, or run in cursor --disable-extensions mode if there are many.

Thank you for your response.

I think this issue may have been caused by a huge Composer!

I have started a new composer and am not experiencing this issue any more.

I will update this thread if I need further help thanks.
