Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?
Cloud Agent (GitHub, Slack, Web, Linear)
Describe the Bug
Two related issues with Settings → Agents → Context and Tools → Sync Skills for Cloud Agents.
Bug 1 — Sync stalls silently; progress indicator keeps claiming progress
Enabled the setting. UI showed Syncing 4 of 15, later Syncing 6 of 15, then stopped advancing for ~50 minutes with no error in the UI.
Logs showed transport-layer failure, not mere slowness:
[agent-store-sync] sync failed: [deadline_exceeded] The operation was aborted due to timeout
[warning] Failed to sync managed skills from dashboard
{“error”:“Error: No Connect transport provider registered.”}
[info] [cursor-agent-exec] skills sync setting read failed:
No Connect transport provider registered.
[error] Failed to check if file sync is enabled for user
{“message”:“No Connect transport provider registered.”}
These appeared right after an extension-host reload — looks like a startup race (sync starts before the Connect transport provider is registered). Fully quitting and relaunching Cursor cleared it; sync completed. Window reload was not enough.
Content synced was small (15 directories, ~300 KB) — nothing that justifies a 50-minute stall. The frozen “Syncing 6 of 15” counter looked like progress while nothing could reach the network.
Bug 2 — After successful sync, Cloud Agent sees none of the synced skills
After restart, sync reported complete. A Cloud Agent launched about a minute later could not see any synced skill.
Two disposable probe skills were in ~/.cursor/skills/ (one symlink, one real directory). Agent searched its skill list, /home/ubuntu/.cursor/, plugin cache, and /workspace, and reported both unavailable.
Same window had backend errors: marketplace HTTP 502, repeated Connect errors, CloudAgentRepository: Failed to fetch.
Connect errors:
“error.kind”:“ConnectError”
“error.code”:“13” → INTERNAL
“service”:“aiserver.v1.BackgroundComposerService”
“method”:“ListAgentStoreDirectory” | “ListBackgroundComposers” | “GetBackgroundComposerUserSettings”
status.cursor.com showed all systems operational. Unclear whether skills failed to upload, failed to be served, or the agent looked in the wrong place. Request IDs available on request.
Separate question: Does Sync Skills follow symlinks in ~/.cursor/skills/? Locally 78 entries (60 symlinks + 15 real dirs); sync counter reported exactly 15.
Steps to Reproduce
- Populate ~/.cursor/skills/ with a mix of real directories and symlinks (valid SKILL.md targets).
- Enable Settings → Agents → Context and Tools → Sync Skills for Cloud Agents.
- Observe the progress counter — in this case it stalled on a frozen count with no UI error.
- Fully quit and relaunch Cursor; sync then completes.
- Launch a Cloud Agent and ask it to list/invoke skills by a distinctive name prefix.
Expected Behavior
- A stalled sync should surface the transport error instead of showing a static “Syncing N of M” counter indefinitely.
- Skills reported as synced should be visible to a Cloud Agent launched afterwards.
