I was busy in a Deepseek chat, sent a message and all of a sudden cursor froze and i saw spinner Loading Chat. Options: Reopen, Close, Keep Wiating. None of the options solve the issue. Even after restarting Cursor and opening the project, the chat is loading and spinner spins… after 30 seconds "The windows id note responsing"shows again.
I cannot continue my work
Hey, this issue is usually related to a large chat history in your project. To solve the problem, try manually deleting most of the history, possibly the oldest chats. You can also try renaming or moving the project. This will help you quickly clear the history.
Additionally, you can delete the history by navigating to this path and sorting the folders by modification date. Choose the one that was used recently; you can delete it or save a backup just in case:
Windows: %APPDATA%\Cursor\User\workspaceStorage
macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Cursor/User/workspaceStorage
Linux: ~/.config/Cursor/User/workspaceStorage
If your history is important to you, you can try exporting it using this extension:
Thanks, deleted the recent ones and now Cursor is starting again
I have same issue on MacOS - when I check /Library/Application Support/Cursor - there is nothing there. Could there be an alternative location where chat is saved?
Hey, are you sure you checked here?
/Library/Application Support/Cursor/User/workspaceStorage
Yes… but I’ve learned that the Tilde in front of that string is important. So I’ll check and see given that, whether the Cursor directory exists.
If I find it, what do you recommend?
Can you point me to the location I can enter my own API keys to the LLMs I use(OpenAI and Anthropic)?
I’m not yet at my laptop, but will look using the tilde at the beginning of the path when I am.

API keys are located in the Cursor settings. To access them, open the settings using Cmd + Shift + J
, and on the Models tab, at the very bottom, you’ll see the API keys.
