Describe the request
I’d like a configurable token budget (or request budget) for premium models so I can pace my usage across the month instead of running out in the first week.
Current situation:
On Pro+ I tend to use all premium tokens in the first week. After that I rely on Auto, which is usually fine, but it’s frustrating when a difficult problem comes up mid‑ or late‑month and I no longer have premium access.
Proposed feature:
A way to set a daily budget for premium model usage (e.g. 80–100 premium interactions per day). Behavior would be:
- While under the daily/weekly limit: use premium models as usual.
- Once the daily/weekly limit is reached: automatically switch to Auto mode.
- Each day: the budget resets (e.g. at midnight) so the next day’s/week’s batch is available.
- Optional: ability to pause or override the budget when needed (e.g. temporarily disable it for a critical session).
Example flow:
Use premium for the first hour or two of work until the daily limit is hit, then rely on Auto for the rest of the day, knowing that tomorrow another batch of premium tokens will be available.
Summary:
Rather than all-or-nothing for the month, this would let users spread premium usage across the month and reserve capacity for harder tasks later, while still benefiting from Auto when the daily budget is exhausted.
