Hey, this is the agent-notification badge. The number 2 means 2 agents have finished running, are waiting for your approval, or have unread results, and the Cursor window wasn’t focused.
How to clear it:
Right now the badge doesn’t show which exact agents it’s for. That’s annoying, we know. Let me know if the number doesn’t go away after you open the agents.
I thought it’s something like that. The Problem was, I couldn’t find those chats anywhere. Not even in the History. Looks like they are lost.
Hey, there are a couple possible reasons, so let’s check.
Cursor chat history is stored in two separate places and it doesn’t sync between them: the Agents Window (Glass) and the chat sidebar in the IDE. If those agents were started in one of them, check both, they might still be in the other list.
To confirm if they’re actually gone, can you share:
Good news: even if the chats aren’t visible in the UI, the transcripts often still exist on disk. On Windows, they’re here:
C:\Users\<your user>\.cursor\projects\<project folder>\
If you find session files there, the data is still there, it’s just not loading into the list. This is a known scenario we’re tracking. Let me know what you find.
Hey @MrE10,
Quick update on the 2 on your taskbar icon. We’ve changed how that number is counted so it only includes agents that show an unread dot in your chat list. Before, it could also count background items like subagents that never appear in the sidebar, which is most likely why you couldn’t find those chats anywhere.
That change is already in recent versions of Cursor, so it may be sorted for you now. If you still see a number with no matching unread chats, could you let me know your Cursor version? If you have the Cursor icon in the system tray, its menu also lists which agents the number is counting and has a Clear All Notifications option.
