Thank you @user770, I am trying to reproduce the issue though I am not able to do so at the moment.
Same issue here. Have been using Agent view exclusively for the past several days. On Cursor restart today the title of my chats were available in the chat pane, but each time I clicked one it disappeared from the list. Same result in default window when attempting to open chats from the chat history.
I asked Cursor to take a look and here is the information to dig up:
Summary of the Issue
Your chat data has been lost, likely due to a Cursor update that occurred today (version 1.7.46). Here’s what I found:
What I Discovered:
-
13 chat entries exist in the database
-
11 of them are empty (NULL values) - just placeholder records
-
Only 2 have data:
-
This current conversation
-
One empty/newly created chat
-
The conversation messages (bubbles) for the lost chats are also gone - only this current conversation has message data (75 bubbles)
-
The backup file was created this morning at 08:57 (right after the update downloaded) and it already had the data loss - so it can’t help recover anything
Timeline:
-
08:58 AM: Cursor downloaded update to version 1.7.46
-
08:57 AM: Backup was created (already missing data)
-
The data loss occurred sometime before the backup was created
I’m not sure of the claim that it was ‘likely due to an update that happened today’ seeing as the backup taken before performing the update was already missing the data, but the rest of this context may be helpful.
Note: the 11 remaining NULL chats are the ones I haven’t yet tried to open in my client
I am on OS X 15.6.1, and I have been running low on disk space recently but cleared up some room with a docker system prune yesterday
Hey ren – are you able to reproduce the history loss with the procedure I describe in Agent Window messages are lost if any preceding messages in the conversation were sent via sidebar?
I use chat in a project. I’m running Windows 11 Enterprise 24H2. I use a freshly updated Cursor 1.7.54 (system setup). When I use the chat section in Agent mode, it creates a normal chat history of all my chat tabs. If I close Cursor and reopen it, my project folder opens normally but all chat history is gone. I get a clean “New Chat” tab. I can see a bunch of folders with today’s date in C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Cursor\User\workspaceStorage. I’d like to help you reproduce it on your side. Tell me what I can do to help.
On Nightly , just updated to 20.0.12 and ALL my chat history is gone
The problem magically disappeared for me. Chat is running normally again.
Same here… @condor or @deanrie can either of you or another member of the staff provide instructions on how we can extract and migrate chat history from an old state.vscdb backup?
I just had the same issue, after the 2.0 release. Can’t reach to my history for all my projects. Is there a way to restore from my local files? I am paying 200 USD / month for this adventure.
I can share that having reported this issue a while ago I was finally able to somewhat recover using the agent itself. I tried this before and it didn’t work but after the latest update I decided to try prompting the agent again and the result is below.
Notes
———
- It didn’t fully restore conversation titles. so some of them are
Conversion <ID> - A lot of Conversations were empty and I ran another script written by the agent to get rid of them
Other than that I know have the full history of chats going back a few months available just like any other conversation.
The agent wrote the following script.
@condor @deanrie I decided to drop this in the latest relevant thread; maybe it’ll be useful.
I got curious about exporting all my prompts from Cursor for self-analysis. I found a post explaining where the chats are stored. And turns out, despite at least one reinstall of Cursor and at least two chat history resets (which I bugreported), my full interaction history with the Agent is still there in the workspaceStorage folder.
I had the same issue Unable to load previous chat sessions
I am using ultra, i emailed the [email protected] 3 times, nobody answered. For a service that costs 200 USD, i expect better customer services!
