I’m currently using Cursor AI on a company-managed laptop where app updates and installers are restricted due to IT policies and agreement limitations. I’ve already subscribed to Cursor AI Pro, and I’m concerned about the subscription going to waste if the app forces an update that I’m not allowed to install.
Is there any supported way to continue using Cursor AI without updating the desktop app—such as a legacy mode, portable version, browser-based access, or temporarily disabling update checks. Any official guidance or safe workaround would be really helpful.
On Windows, there’s a User Setup build that installs into your user folder and doesn’t need admin rights. You can download it at Download · Cursor.
Cursor Web (Cloud Agents)
If you can’t use the desktop app, there’s cursor.com/agents, a web UI for Cloud Agents. It requires connecting a GitHub or GitLab repo and works a bit differently than a local Agent.
Important: Older versions (1.7 and below) are no longer supported due to critical security updates and architecture changes. Version 2.3.23 is much more stable than early 2.x releases.
What OS are you on? If possible, it’s usually best to work with IT to set the MDM policy, that’s the most reliable option for corporate setups.
