VS Code Version

How can I download the latest version of Cursor? I have several extensions that won’t update because Cursor isn’t on a certain version of VS Code and it’s getting a little frustrating.

I am on Cursor version: 0.44.11 which is on VSCode Version: 1.93.1. This is from August 2024. Is Cursor version 0.45 still rolling out? Can we force an update?

More communication about releases would be helpful, as well as finding a way of keeping aligned with VS Code versions so extensions aren’t blocked. I completely understand you are scaling and are working through issues but as a paying customer it’s a frustrating experience and I’m forced to use alternative products.

Hey, we’re planning to release an update very soon with an updated version of VSCode. Stay tuned for updates.

When is this version coming exactly? Current version is on VS Code from back in August 2024, it’s getting kinda ridiculous

Hey, the release should be available in the next few days, but we are gradually rolling it out to ensure there are no stability issues or bugs we need to iron out that slipped through out testing.

Are there any plans to increase the version again? We are also encountering required extensions that are incompatible.

Dear sir, any updates on the VS Code version. We are left below version 1.100.x for quite some time now.

hi @ofek & @ianmoone163 thank you for your comments, we do update VScode version regularly and will announce the next update for everyone.

Do you have any specific reasons for the upgrade? If yes, feel free to be more detailed as that may help us understand the need for upgrades.

We wish to use extensions that only support newer versions. Also critically, some extensions that cannot be upgraded have vulnerabilities Outdated VSCode Extensions May Contain Known CVEs

Which extensions are causing issues?

I cannot use the Azure Container Apps extension because it requires a newer VS Code version than Cursor has released. Sadly, I don’t remember the actual version required and don’t remember how to reproduce the error, but I believe it greater than 1.100

Currently, Cursor/About Cursor shows the following…

This is quite a gap in the between Code and Cursor in the not only VSCode itself, but all of the underlying tools (i.e., Electron, Chromium, Node.js and V8).

VS Code 1.99.3 was release on April 16, 2025. Now, 6½ months have passed without a VS Code upgrade.

This is really unacceptable. If Cursor is going claim to be based on VS Code and compatible with license-friendly VS Code extensions, it seems reasonable to expect that Cursor stay more up-to-date with new VSCode releases. And this is just one of a whole host of reasons that this should be an ongoing priority for Cursor development.
